The never ending conversation of accents and dialects has surface again. Back in January, I blogged about the New York Times’ quiz: How Y’all, Youse and You Guys Talk, take the quiz if you haven’t already. All in all, this quiz is going to give you a break down of where your accent comes from based on how you answer a series of 25 questions. My results were rather accurate.

Last year, I shared this video with all of my friends. Based off the parody of Shit Girls Say: the Wisconsin version is classic. If you live in Wisconsin or know anyone from there this video will have you in stitches.

Similar to Shit Wisconsin Says, is this true Wisconsin accented video. When it comes to being a Wisconsinite it’s all about pronunciation! Wisconsin cities and town names can be a challenge to pronounce even for those living in the state, but, for Texans? Forget it.

Enjoy these videos and you give it a shot, can you pronounce these city names?

New Kids on the Block

So maybe I am lame because my favorite summer anthem song is by New Kids on the Block, but that’s okay I’d rather be lame than pretend to like something that I don’t.  Summertime is a 2008 single and the first from the New Kids on the Block album titled The Block. The single was released in May 2008, the coolest part Summertime was the first single released by the group since 1994. Thanks for that awesome High School graduation gift, New Kids on the Block.

The best part of this song might be the music video–please know I am joking about this part, really the music video is not great by any means. The music video was premiered on VH1 later in 2008, do you all remember Pop-up videos on VH1?  The video was directed by Thomas Kloss and Donnie Wahlberg. The video begins with Donnie exiting a hangar and texts the band members with the message that said, “It’s on.” Then he boards a helicopter that’s waiting for him. The band members are each shown receiving the message while they are doing various activities like swimming or running and they head off to the beach. They are then shown singing on the beach and at a party.

What’s there not to love about this song? It’s a little bit of a throwback from an awesome band, the beach, texting (haha), a summer love story and friends. It’s really the perfect summer anthem. Maybe this song didn’t top the Billboard charts, but it’s always on my top charts!

Who doesn’t love a good emjoi? So, I am pretty much obsessed with emojis. That’s my favorite thing about the iPhone. Sometimes, words just aren’t enough. Sometimes, you need that perfectly fitting emoji.

On Monday, the Unicode Consortium, a nonprofit that regulates the coding standards for written computer text that includes, yes, emoji, announced that it has added 2,834 new characters to its widely adopted standard. Among them are approximately 250 emoji. Can you believe this is happening? I can’t. I am over joyed and thrilled with excitement. July will bring the 250 new emojis to the Emojipedia as part of the Unicode 7.0 software update from Apple, Google and Microsoft.

To see the list of soon-to-be new emojis click here. I will say I am pretty bummed out there isn’t a shark or unicorn…

on the metro?

Well, snakes were not exactly on my metro but they were apart of the podcast that I was so intently listening to. Last Friday it seemed like anyother. I was running a head of time, and things were going smoothly until I turned my podcast on. Let me preface this by telling you lately, Matt and I have been getting really into the show River Monsters with Jeremy Wade and by “really” into it that’s exactly what I mean. There is not a night that goes by where River Monsters is not on our Netflix cue. It’s an incredible show.

Back to my Friday morning commute. There I sit on the train and I turn on The Moth podcast to get me through my morning commute and luckily it’s a radio hour which is featuring “a squeamish writer is sent on an assignment to locate enormous poisonous snakes; a hippie kid seeks the approval of his conservative father; and two child refugees from Afghanistan arrive in America without their parents.” All hell breaks loose as soon as I turn on the podcast. I sit on the train listening intently and the next thing I know, I look up and I am TWO stops past my transfer location. All I could think of was “wait, this is not right”. After I got back on track to get to the office, I turned my podcast back on and finished listening to the stories.

This is a pointless funny story for me to share with you. It just goes to show that all parts of your life truly are interconnected. That, and well the fact that you should really be paying attention to what’s going on throughout your morning commute.

Who created kick a Ginger Day? #notgreat. I don’t know when this Godforsaken day is nor would I like to. As a Ginger, I get a lot of heat. People are always telling me how Gingers are unattractive and how much it must suck because I have fair skin AND freckles. I love my Ginger locks. I love my freckles and you know what beleive it or not I love my pale complexion. It’s not that I want you to feel sorry for me, it’s the fact that I want you to understand being a Ginger is not “easy”, but I think it’s pretty awesome. Regardless check out the graphic below because it’s pretty awesome.
